Rye Chapter, UK
Rye was one of the last chapters to be formed in England - it has long had contacts with Europe, and is one of 7 Historic Cinque Ports (they created 2 extra!) Last year we were priviledged to have Rev Trevor Dearing taking the meeting - from us he went to IRELAND imagine our delight when the next year Richard Shakarian and Peter Gammons came to Wrotham to speak and then went to Ireland. I believe Belfast was one of the first chapters to be formed. As one of the weakest and most foolish things in the group ( 1 Corinthians 18) I was privileged to pray for that visit and for the right relationship of men and women in that land under Jesus Christ. Uganda and Rwanda
May 27 to June 19, 1999
The Airlift ministry to East Africa was a resounding success again this year. This is the fourth trip in five years to this area of the world to bring the message of hope and love in Jesus Christ by the dedicated members of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International. As in the past our ministry had two objectives. We went to encourage the chapter development work because the chapters in Uganda and Rwanda have been so depleted by the unceasing wars and social upheaval. They needed an infusion of the Spirit. Secondly, the many prisons have serious problems with overcrowding and lack of food, which is complicated by the tribal conflicts and political tensions. There are some 150,000 men and women being held in the prisons. The tribal process is slow and the conditions are horrible in the prisons there.
Our eight person Airlift Team this year included a former inmate, Phil Wineinger, from a Washington State Correctional facility and his wife who have special experience to share as prison ministers. As they ministered to the many broken down and hungry prisoners we all could sense a powerful anointing of the Lord. Many of the prisoners were moved to receiving Jesus into their lives and were saved.
Also on our Airlift Team this year we had an opera singer, Vanessa Pace, who has a powerful anointing from the Lord. The Africans loved her everywhere that she sang as perhaps for the first time they heard a truly operatic performer in their midst singing about a saving Lord who can be trusted in difficult times. As she sang a song of repentance and redemption in the face of the devil, the power of the Holy Spirit changed the hearts of killers. Even our Rwanda escort, John Ngabo, who has been a prison chaplain for five years, was touched to tears by the outpouring of repentance in these prisoners.
The leaders of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship in both Uganda (Dan Nkata) and Rwanda (Nkusi Josias) have done a superb job in reorganizing and motivating their respective countries' chapter ministry despite the almost overwhelming obstacles. As our Airlift Team ministered in Uganda to the four new Chapters there we recognized a new confidence that was not seen just three years ago. The Rwanda meetings were lively and focused on rebuilding the spiritual life of the country and working through their difficult period of repentance and forgiveness after the recent conflicts there.
Both national FGBMFI leaders and all the local chapter leaders were immensely impressed by one of our African American Team members, Richard Caro. He provided a sense of deep understanding of what hardships our African brothers in the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship have endured over the last twenty years. In one meeting at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala Richard's testimony alone so enthralled the seventy guests that three people came forward to receive Jesus right then on the spot.
Our other two team members, Ralph Cady and Sig Hansen, were witnessing to everyone about Jesus from the moment that we got on the airplane in Seattle to getting off three weeks later.
Prison Ministry
There are many tools we use in the FGBMFI ministry, but one of the most important tools is the Voice Magazine. As an example, a prisoner reads the Voce Magazine. He or she prays the Steps to Salvation and writes and tells us of their decision. We then send him a booklet "Now that you've received Christ" along with a personal letter (handwritten) congratulating them on their decision to invite Jesus into their heart. We also tell them to get involved with the Christian activities in that particular jail or prison, such as visits with the Chaplain, Bible Studies and Christian Prayer Groups. We tell them to get a bible and read it every day; perhaps listen to Christian TV or radio. We will try to send someone to disciple to them or to be their mentor. If we have enough copies of the Voice Magazine, we send them. Sending these takes time and money for materials and postage. For security purposes, any correspondence with prisoners uses the Irvine, California label or letterhead. We then try to coordinate an FGBMFI member with the prisoner who is involved in that area. "I was in prison and you came to me." Matthew 25:36
JAPAN 1999
Today Japan is a powerhouse economy, built on exports. The ingenuity of the Japanese people is unparalleled. They have masterminded their financial, manufacturing and electronic rise even though they have almost no raw materials. Japan has no oil, no steel, and lacks many of the essential materials upon which a modern economy is built. All of these materials must be imported. At the same time this great historic nation is undergoing one of its biggest changes - in the opening up of the minds and hearts of its people. From 1192 AD until 1868 the Japanese people virtually lived as surfs, dominated by the warlords and shoguns of the land. Since the rise of modern Japan and its evolution into today's strong economy, the Holy Spirit has moved upon the people. The FGBMFI is established in its cities, and there is the beginning of a spiritual awakening.
As we walked along the streets of Tokyo, the Holy Spirit revealed that among these 125 million people who are shoved into a space smaller than California, there is a new openness of spirit and, surprisingly, it is with the young people. As our delegates to the Japanese National Convention witnessed to people, whether on the street or elsewhere, it almost always ended in the person receiving Jesus Christ as their Savior.
This new generation is complete with the latest fads, with every young person seemingly carrying a cell phone and, being interested in all the latest technology. This is the generation that the Holy Spirit will fall upon. They are open to the Holy Spirit. We of the FGBMFI are believing God will use us to reach Japan.
The 10th Annual Japanese Convention, led by Ken Tsukamoto, the National President, and Tadashi Nakagawa, the Japanese National Secretary, was a tremendous success. There were about 600 people present. During this Convention in Tokyo many received Christ and are now filled with the Holy Spirit. There were tremendous healings also. The ministry team included Dave Duell from the USA, Dr. Steve Rider from Australia, and Richard Shakarian. In service after service many were touched by the power of the God's Spirit. The Christian newspapers reported our Convention. Now there is a new wave of cooperation between the Fellowship and the churches in Japan to the extent that many of the great crusade and outreach efforts are being helped or coordinated by the FGBMFI and National President, Ken Tsukamoto.
The last day of the Convention ended with a great banquet. About the time the service would have normally been dismissed, the power of the Holy Spirit fell upon the people and there was joy all over the place. People were laughing. Some couldn't get off the floor. These were very dignified Japanese people with the glory upon them.
All the members of the National Board are in their 40's and full of the power of the Holy Spirit. There's a tremendous combination in today's Japan. Japan is ready. You can sense it as you ride the train. You can sense it as you walk down the streets. The Holy Spirit is saying, "Japan is ready." It's ready for a move of the of God, beginning with the youth.
God is certainly shaking Japan, as we've seen through the earthquakes and typhoons, which hit Okinawa while we were there, but missed the main part of Japan. Being on the Pacific Rim of Fire, earthquakes are common. The fresh testimonies, one after another, of those who have received Jesus Christ show that there are no cultural, economic, social or language barriers to the tremendous power of God.
