Nicaragua, 3rd-8th May, 1999: By all reports, this dynamic event surpassed anything the FGBMFI has ever done. With over 925 meetings taking place, the impact could be felt to the very fibre of the nation. The inertia was so powerful that meetings have continued even since the outreach has ended. Unprecedented numbers of people were healed and committed their lives to Jesus Christ.
From the national newspapers to television, the outreach was a major topic of the news, bringing a positive message of hope to a country which has had more than its share of challenges of late. One headline read, "A World Leader Comes to Nicaragua". The people were wide open to receive FGBMFI International President, Richard Shakarian, representing the 145 nations in which the Fellowship is active.
There had been several prophetic words concerning this event in Nicaragua, indicating that we should go there and when. Richard Shakarian had to delay his planned departure by two days due to the civil strife, which had closed the airport. The timing of the FGBMFI outreach turned out to be ideal. A week earlier would have been impossible, but by the time the teams arrived, the people were looking for a miracle.
The FGBMFI was graciously received by Sr. Arnoldo Aleman, President of Nicaragua, as well as by the opposition leader, Daniel Ortega. They prayed with these key men, and for the nation as a whole.
The youth teams went to schools, colleges, and universities to share their testimonies and the good news about Jesus with students. They were received with enthusiasm and openness. This group alone counted 24,353 young people, who invited Jesus Christ into their lives during their meetings.
At the police academy, we spoke to the future law enforcement officers of the nation. A high percentage came forward for prayer to commit their lives to Jesus Christ.
Factories closed down their operations while FGBMFI men came in and spoke to their workers. Central American members were taught to give their simple testimonies, telling what God has done for them in terms that people will understand. They prayed for both management and employees.
Now other nations are wanting us to come to and do the same thing not holding religious meetings behind closed doors, but going out to where the people are, praying for them and sharing the simple truth of Jesus Christ. Richard Shakarian prayed for the nation on the most popular secular TV interview show. There were so many invitations for teams to speak that it was impossible to get to all of them.
Jaime Sol, from El Salvador, reports that it was like being at a train station. There was so much happening that it was like catching a train. Every few minutes one was going someplace new it was only a matter of getting on board! The group which came from his nation went back on fire with excitement about what God can do. They had seen the blind see and the lame walk, but more importantly, they had seen how God could use them to reach people for Jesus.
When asked what they thought about it all, the group from Panama could only say, "Its incredible! We have never seen anything like it. It is more than we expected."
This was the vision of the FGBMFI in action. It was a mobilization of ordinary people, each one armed with a single confidence, "God can do it." Whatever the need, "God can do it!" God opened the way even in the area of the geological situation. The active volcano, which had been causing difficulties of late, did not stop the teams. At the schools people came to the teams confused, "What is happening here? That boy who is weeping on the floor is the worst in the school." Jesus had touched him and he was on the floor praying.
From the north to the south, from the east to the west, a work has begun that will now spread throughout the whole world. God showed FGBMFI President Richard Shakarian the time and place and confirmed it through many others. As it turned out the outreach took place at a strategic time for Nicaragua something no man could have anticipated. Is was the time and place for miracles.
