Georgia State Governor is
Prayed for at FGBMFI Men's Advance!
Newly elected Governor Roy Barnes, came to the Men's Advance with previous Governor Joe Frank Harris. Both shared about the importance of prayer. Afterwards business leaders from the FGBMFI gathered around to pray for Governor Barnes. The Georgia Men's Advance has been forced to split into two weekends, held one after the other, packing out the camp to capacity on both. The 1,200 men came mostly from Georgia and neighbouring states. The leaders maintain that the secret to their success is giving the Holy Spirit time to touch the men's hearts. Men are so excited by their own experience that they book, in many cases, whole cabins for the next year. They invite their work buddies to come with them. On the final evening Dr. Mark Rutland never got a chance to give his message. The men were so moved by the worship music that he just invited those to come forward who wanted to invite Jesus Christ into their lives. Approximately 50 men came. He then briefly shared his own experiences with the Holy Spirit. Men started coming to the front even before he was finished, some climbing over the theatre style seating to get there. When Dr. Rutland invited those wanting to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit to come forward for prayer, over 250 men crowded the front area. It was a powerful and deeply moving event.
Early that day there was a luncheon for FGBMFI leaders. Each of them shared a little about their area. One after another they said how Voice magazine had played an important role. In the morning session some state prisoners were permitted to come, under escort, to share how God had changed their lives. One of our leaders, who is working in the prisons, told us about a case in the maximum security cells. FGBMFI men, working together in a programme with the chaplains, were permitted to speak to these dangerous criminals, but only through a very small hole in the door. They gave one particularly hardened man a Voice magazine under the door. It was pushed back. The visitor continued to insist and finally left it. The next week they went back to the prison and that man had totally changed. He was now excited to see the FGBMFI men and wanted more of what they had to share. He had read the Voice Magazine many times and had committed his life to Jesus Christ.
